Reviews for this venue: 2 October Afternoon Tea at The Waiting Room Melbourne 4 June High Tea at The Waiting Room Melbourne. They were both very tasty and fresh.
I particularly liked the croquettes which was soft and delicate texture that just melted in your mouth. My mum loved the little tarts and from the first bite she was oohing and aahing about how beautiful they were.
This was a cold selection but were very fresh and tasty. The chicken and walnut tortilla was the standout on this tier. Then it was time to tackle the third and final tier which was wickedly indulgent!
We were certainly starting to fill up our bellies but for some reason there is always room for dessert! Everything on this level was divine and once again freshly made.
The vodka jelly shot was an interesting element to the high tea concept and I can tell you that the cherries had been well soaked in vodka as those little things packed a punch!
Now you may be thinking that this the end of our little affair with food? No sirree — the food affair continued on and even though our bellies were full, the offer of traditional raisin and butter-milk scones, homemade jam and whipped cream was far too tempting not to have!
The ribbon sandwiches were average. I quite liked the chicken and walnut one as it was creamy and nicely flavoured.
The salmon and cream cheese sandwich was not bad either although nothing special, anyone could have guessed what this tasted like.
I was trying desperately to alternate the flavours by eating one savoury and one sweet. Most of the mini cakes were quite sweet. I found the alfajor quite intriguing.
When I took a bite, it revealed layers of honey and hazelnut biscuits somewhat like a wafer and as I love hazelnut flavoured things, I managed to somehow eat all of it.
Another one of my favourites — the peanut butter, caramel and chocolate ganache tart — was so rich but so well balanced with the sea salt and peanut butter that I almost wanted seconds.
Silly me! Exuding glamour from a bygone era, The Waiting Room features jewel-toned velvet couches, a dramatic brass accented bar and a spacious open terrace.
